Thank you, Loxi Sibley loxisibley033@gmail.com Below is a portion of something that happened to me, and I will always be thankful for these memories. This is in regard to my Elvis Presley sale, to Elvis Presley. The Elvis sale took place in 1976. Unfortunately, I was never able to see him in person, but like all his other fans, I played his music and attended every movie the day it hit the theater in our small corner of the world. I was just a preteen the first time I saw one of his movies. In fact, I didn't even want to go, I was a tomboy, I had never heard of him before, and I had better things to do, my horse was waiting for me and I was supposed to play baseball, etc. Well, my mom "insisted" that I go, and after about five minutes or so into the movie Jailhouse Rock, I was hooked! At that time, I didn't know a lot about Elvis Presley, except that he was so good looking, Lord have mercy and I loved his music; Elvis memorabilia was something that I didn't know about. I would see a magazine with an article about him and a few photos once in a while. My access to anything like that at that time, and my number of his records were very, very limited. I had different priorities. Between taking care of my family and taking night classes to study the application and mixing oils on the palette, before a brush touches the canvas, I really was not left with a lot of extra time or money! With all of the work of underpainting and patience of drying time before I even started on my actual colors for the final painting it took discipline and I had to learn that also. I did work on several at a time so I would have something to work on every day. I spent one year working on the Elvis portrait with the lavender, blue blend jacket with microphone, it was a labor of pure love. Then finally I thought, this is the best I can do, and I left it alone. (Now I'm not saying it was perfect, far from it). Before I knew it, I was doing the second portrait and then the third. After I had completed the first three portraits, my mom (again) insisted that I take them to a store called Records in downtown Sacramento, California. There, I met Lee Cotton, an Elvis specialist, who was the person that made a wish come true for this country girl. Lee knew the Colonel, and sent him pictures of the paintings. The next thing I know EPE (Boxcar Enterprises Inc.) purchased all three paintings and Lee is personally flying the paintings to the Colonel. And wow, I still pinch myself. After the paintings were purchased by Boxcar Enterprises, posters (fine quality I might add) were produced and sold at Elvis' concerts. What a thrill that was for me! And then later to be told that Elvis, himself was in possession of the paintings and that he loved my work. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would ever really happen to me. After Elvis passed away my art was used in The Official Elvis Presley Tour Souvenir Collection. Later on, in the "80"s Lee wrote a book on Elvis and included one of my paintings that he owned. I've seen my work on TV and in magazines, newspapers, movie props, etc. Then in 2014, in her new book, Elvis and Ginger, my name and my art were also mentioned. Thank you Ginger. So, this is a glimpse of who I am. I am not a student of art in any university or community college, I'm just using what I have naturally, not all good, not all bad: Plus, the knowledge and talent of a great adult schoolteacher, Helen George. What the Good Lord has blessed me with, I am truly grateful. I thank the Lord for such a gift, my mom for pushing me, my husband for supporting me and my kids for thinking all moms painted. Who would've thought that this shy country girl would have her work known around the world. It still makes me shake my head in wonder.
